Mala Bead Necklaces for Your Spiritual Practice

Posted on February 12, 2012 at 1:55 PM

A mala bead necklace was exactly what I was looking for – and I didn’t even know it until I came across these beauties from Tiny Devotions.

Mala bead necklaces are handmade using rudrashka seeds originally from Bali. The seeds are grown in only a few remote places on earth and have been revered for thousands of years in Buddhism, Hinduism and yoga practices for their spiritual energy and healing powers. The legend behind them is that rudraksha seeds are known to be the tears of Shiva, an Indian Goddess. Shiva meditated on the welfare of mankind, crying tears of compassion which crystallized upon hitting the earth to form the rudraksha tree.

Mala beads are also known as prayer beads, or japa beads, or hindu beads. They are lightweight and have a beautiful texture that makes each bead unique, like a snowflake.

Each necklace is composed of 108 mala beads, plus a 109th “guru stone” that serves as a reminder to appreciate teachers, mentors, friends, parents, and family while also acknowledging our eternal connection to the Divine. Not to mention how they gorgeous they are!

Every necklace also has semi-precious stones, pearls and crystals that hold specific combined themes such as Peace in Oneself, Prosperity Mala, Be Still and Know, Mala of Fire, Truth Mala, and White Jade Highest Potential Mala. Many of the necklaces connected with me so it was hard to choose just one, but I eventually went with the Goddess Mala. And it makes me smile every day. A lot.

Because they transmute and contain energy, it’s recommended to wear your necklace for 40 days straight to attune it to your personal energy. A few other things I’ve learned since wearing my mala bead necklace include…

~ Since they transmute energy, it’s important to cleanse them regularly with sunlight, moonlight, incense, sound vibrations and/or Reiki techniques

~ Set an intention each day and connect that intention to your necklace

~ Set an intention for your life and allow the mala necklace to be a reminder of your journey and purpose

~ Love yourself more daily

Check out a beautiful selection of necklaces and bracelets on Tiny Devotions if these call to your soul! They also have a few videos to watch, suggestions on choosing the right necklace, and some designs for men.

~Namaste~
