Please welcome Tess Marshall for our October interview! Tess writes the blog The Bold Life, so I was happy to ask her a few questions about her daily inspirations, being bold in the real world, and what she has up her sleeves in the next few months. ~Molly
Molly: Your writing and blog offers rich content to help people improve their lives and live fearlessly. That’s such an on-going motivation for all of us. What inspires you daily?
Tess: My family, my readers, and my desire to help make the world a more loving place. I have a spiritual morning routine. I meditate, read, and keep a gratitude journal. I live in Arizona in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I love seeing the blue sky and sunshine. That’s a lot of inspiration!
I love how The Bold Life is both personal and practical. How do you decide what to write about?
I love to write about my personal experiences. I also ask questions on Twitter and Facebook. I like to solve the problems my readers have. I also write about my family, personal lessons, and my own fears.
You shared in this post your own story of being a mom at 17, going back to college “later in life” (such a funny phrase to me – it’s never too late to be in school!
) and how your four girls have grown into successful women. At what point in your journey did you consciously call yourself bold?
I’ve always been the type to take both action and risks. I was one of 10 children. I feel I had to take risks to get my needs met and survive.
With my four girls, I had to keep moving boldly forward. I became an example for them.
It was my friends who first began calling me bold. They wanted to be more like me. Then they advised me to start writing my stories down.
Anyone can be bold enough to leave their comfort zone. Small steps lead to bigger steps. I’m currently writing an e-course on overcoming fear for anyone who wants to “get their bold on!”
Looking ahead, what bold actions do you hope to take before the end of 2011?
Finish my e-course, put more videos on my blog, create a “30 days of Bold” course, and write books for the Kindle. I just started a fan page for The Bold Life on Facebook. Everyone’s invited to join! I also want to begin doing teleseminars.
On the personal side, I’ll attend my daughter’s wedding. She’s getting married at the Rock n' Roll marathon in Las Vegas in December.
I want to hike more now that the weather is cooler. I may do a 10 mile run in December as well. Also my grandson is three in December. I can’t wait for his birthday party. He’s full of wonder and joy. He noticed yesterday that the clouds were moving!
"The clouds are moving" - the simplest statement can sound quite profound coming from a young mind.
Blogging is such an exciting, entrepreneurial venture these days. What can readers expect to discover on The Bold Life in months to come?
I’ll be partnering with others, creating new products, using all forms of media to bring you the best tools and techniques to live an inspiring and fear-less life.
Exciting! Thank you for your time, Tess. Look forward to all of your next bold moves.
